How to make almond flour? – Everything You Need to Know!

We have several products like almond flour, almond butter, and almond milk. Almond flour is more popular for bakery items. Though this is easy to buy in each and every supermarket, it is quiet expensive. Therefore, if you can make it at home, it is fresh as well as economical. However the question is how to make Almond Flour by you. Actually almond flour recipe is simple and quick; you should have only the raw material and better equipment. 

Several types of almonds are available in supermarkets; raw, salted, unsalted, roasted, spiced, slivered, sliced, and blanched.  However, only few are fine to make the almond flour. They are blanched and sliveredalmonds.  In Blanched almonds the skin is removed and the slivered are the blanched almonds which cut into thin sticks like pieces.

Now it is time to have an idea about how to make Almond Flour. Take blanched or slivered almonds and add them into a blender, or a grinder. Then grind until it becomes a fine powder.  Although this looks somewhat easy and simple, you need to follow some tips to have fine texture and lighter color almond flour. You should get a small quantity of raw almonds to make the flour at a time, otherwise if you use more, the texture may not be fine. If you use food processor, do not over-process because it may become almond butter. It is necessary to store the leftover almond flour in a dark place by putting into an airtight container. We can keep this for one year if it is not exposed to heat or moisture.

Almond Flour Bread


  • 2 tbs unsalted butter, ghee or coconut oil
  • 2 1/2 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed meal
  • One tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • One large egg white
  • 2 tbs honey
  • One tbs apple cider vinegar


  • 1 tsp cinnamon 


  • Heat the 2 tablespoons of gee until it melts
  • Set aside it to cool to room temperature
  • Place a rack in the oven and preheat it to 350F
  • Coat a baking pan with nonstick spray
  • Apply a parchment paper on the pan and coat with spray again
  • Add together the dry ingredients into a large mixing ball and then whisk the ingredients altogether
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg white, honey, apple cider vinegar, and cooled gee until smooth
  • Next add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and, with proper equipment stir the entire mixture until it combines well
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top
  • Bake as a normal bread that until the top is toasty golden brown about 35 to 40 minutes
  • Keep the pan on a cooling rack and make it cool for 10 minutes
  • Transfer from the pan to the rack and make it cool completely.

Almond Flour Pancakes


  • 4 eggs
  • One cup blanched almond flour
  • One tsp vanilla extract 
  • One pinch unrefined sea salt
  • ¼ tsp baking soda


Add almond flour, baking soda and salt into a medium bowl and combine altogether. In a separate bowl, mix eggs and vanilla. Then add egg mixture into the flour mixture and mix until there are no clumps. Put ghee or any kind of oil into a cast iron skillet and heat it over medium level.  Pour small amount of batter like one table spoon into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on the first side, then flip.

Apple Almond Muffins


  • One cup rolled oats
  • One cup almond flour
  • 2/3 cup buckwheat flour
  • 2 tsp arrowroot powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • One tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 10 fresh dates, pitted and chopped
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened plain yogurt at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup applesauce
  • 3 medium size apples, peeled and cored


  • Pre-heat the oven to 400F. Spray a 12-cup muffin time lightly with oil spray and apply each cup with muffin liners
  • Process the rolled oats by putting in a food processor until it is fine
  • Add the processed rolled oats, almond flour, buckwheat flour, arrowroot powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in to a mixing bowl
  • Place the dates, yogurt, coconut oil, eggs, and 1/3 cup of the applesauce in the bowl of your food processor
  • Process until smooth
  • Place the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients
  • Grate 2 of the apples and add them with the juice into the batter
  • Cut the third apple in to thin slices and set aside
  • Put a heaping tablespoon of the muffin batter into each muffin tin
  • Divide the rest of the reserved applesauce amongst 12 muffin tins
  • Cover each muffin tin with the rest of the batter
  • Top each muffin batter with thin slices of apple by pressing them down gently
  • Sprinkle the muffins with a little bit of cinnamon separately
  • Bake them for 20-22 minutes and let them cool before serving

How to make almond meal

Although almond flour and almond meal look like same, they have slide differences.  Almond meal is made from raw almond which is unpeeled. Making almond meal is also very simple and similar to the procedure of almond flour. Add raw un-peeled almonds to a blender and grind them well. The almond meal is also used for most of the recipes such as muffins, cookies, crackers, cupcakes, etc.
